The Belgian Federal Public Service Economy (Belgium) has published an article highlighting the LEGACY project, an initiative focused on replacing harmful bisphenolbased epoxies with fully biobased, highperformance alternatives. By transforming lignin, an abundant byproduct of the pulp and paper industry, into reactive epoxy building blocks, the project aims to deliver safer, circular materials for coatings, floors, and adhesives.
VITO plays a key role in developing advanced lignin depolymerisation routes, designing new epoxy precursors, and supporting formulation and performance testing. This recognition underscores the growing momentum behind sustainable chemistry and the transition toward healthier construction materials.
