Internship Collaboration with Fundación Novia Salcedo

Nurturing Talent and Shaping the Future: A Successful Collaboration with Fundación Novia Salcedo

Celebrating Another Year of Successful Collaboration with Fundación Novia Salcedo (NSF)!

We were delighted to welcome representatives from Fundación Novia Salcedo, Itziar Pineda and Oihana Ibarzabal Bilbao, for a recent visit. During their time with us, they experienced firsthand the meaningful impact of NSF’s support in fostering a dynamic and practical learning environment.

Our guests had the opportunity to engage with our talented interns, tour our state-of-the-art laboratories, and explore our innovative research projects. Their visit was further enriched by detailed presentations from our dedicated team, showcasing the progress and breakthroughs achieved through this ongoing collaboration.

We are proud to continue our partnership with Fundación Novia Salcedo, an initiative supported by the Basque Government, which provides invaluable internship opportunities for emerging talents. Within our Sustainable Polymer Technologies (SPOT) group, we have had the pleasure of mentoring exceptional interns. For example, Ekine Apellaniz developed a novel analytical monitoring method using depolymerized lignin nanoparticles as part of the Life Viable Project.

This year, Irati Celada Cubero is contributing to the LEGACY Project, focusing on the development of fully bio-based epoxy resin coatings for flooring applications—an innovative alternative to BPA-based materials that carry endocrine-disrupting risks.

We are truly grateful for Fundación Novia Salcedo’s continued support in making this collaboration a lasting success. We look forward to many more years of working together to empower the next generation of scientific leaders. Special thanks to the current and former NSF interns who are still working at VITO: Martin Espinel, Arrate Ruidiaz, Izaskun Gratecat, Leire Navarro, Asier Grijalvo and Irati Celada.
