We are pleased to announce that VITO will participate in the WWSC 2025 International Conference, where we will present our latest progress in sustainable epoxy materials and innovative lignin-based technologies.
Aina Pérez Nakai, a joint PhD researcher between VITO and KU Leuven, will represent the SPOT research group with her poster titled:
"Improving Material Circularity by Designing Renewable Strategies for Epoxy Resin Systems", which will be presented on June 17th in Stockholm.
Research Highlights
Sustainable feedstocks
SPOT incorporates recycled bisphenol A from electronic waste and high-value lignin fractions as renewable building blocks for epoxy resins.

Increased biobased content
The addition of lignin increases the share of renewable carbon in resin formulations, while maintaining excellent mechanical and thermal performance. This work is supported by VITO’s PILLAR II and LignoValue pilot facilities.

Designed for circularity
By incorporating dynamic covalent bonds, these resins support thermal reprocessing and enable chemical recycling of crosslinked systems — a major step toward circular epoxy materials.
